Making Good Men Better
Home Andalusia Lodge 434 Homepage
The true origins of the Craft of Freemasonry are unknown due to inaccurate history data.  This is an unfortunate truth but adds mystery to an obscure group of men at an obscure era in time.  However it is known that the first organized Grand Lodge of Freemasons was formed in London England on the 24th of June 1717 and historians have found links to Lodges of Freemasons during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries in Scotland that consisted of Operative and Speculative Masons.

Although the origins are unclear, the belief that man is inherently good is a just one that Freemasons lay focus on to improve themselves and life around them.  It is known that men become like their surroundings and this is why Freemasons enjoy the fellowship with Brethren.  Most Masons are optimists and have a just desire to make life better for themselves and their circle.

Freemasonry is not a religion, but supplements ones existing beliefs.  A Brother must believe in a Supreme Being whether he is Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, etc, and will give his Obligation on the Holy Book of his choice.  He must be 21 years of age and properly vouched for.  The prequisites of the Lodge aren't extreme, but the inquisitor must have a honest desire to know more, about the Craft and life, to truly receive all that Freemasonry and the Appendant Bodies have to offer.    The motto use to be 'It makes a good man better' and it truly will make you a better man, husband, father, and friend if you accept what is offered.
